Killer Landing Page Optimisation Techniques & Tips

Have you faced situations where PPC and other Paid Search is not converting while organic traffic results in converting ? This might be a usability issue in your landing page and there might be numerous reasons why this happens.

Here are some of the main factors which might be causing this:

1) Is your Search engine optimized content on the landing page having too much length ?
2) Have you mentioned the highlights of the product/service clearly ? Using a bullet point will make visitors see the features/highlights quickly
3) Do you have more than one call to action ? A visitor should be able to book from the landing page whenever he feels that this is the right product which he has been looking for. Visitors behavior changes from person to person and there should be some
4) We all know that this is a fast paced world so the landing page should be well optimized to give the customer a quick value proposition why he should book our products/services.
5) Loading time of the landing page is an important factor. The desired loading time would be around 10 seconds for a well optimized landing page.
6) Don't repeat content as this will make visitors think that the site is not having valuable information.
7) Design the landing page in such a way that it captures the attention of the visitors as soon as he enters the page and also communicates the primary value proposition to the visitor within the least time.
8) Test different versions of content to attract visitors and test which sort of content is working in PPC campaigns. Use seperate landing pages for PPC with the outcomes.

You can now optimize your landing page based on the above 8 main factors which affects the conversion from Paid Search. You can also do a A/B testing and multivibrate testing to find which landing page is getting more conversions from Paid Search.

The History of SEO from 2000-2010 - Cijo Abraham Mani

This is my first post in 2010.I hope you would all have been waiting for my post on this blog. I was a little busy as I had become a Guest Blogger in GSEO Blog.

Today I am going to blog about how SEO changed over the decade. This has been a topic of discussion among a lot of SEO experts as well as webmasters. The major changes that evolved in SEO after 2000 will be discussed in this blogpost. In 2000 Yahoo directory listing for $199 as well as link popularity was an important element for Search Engine Optimization. In 2001 the Pay-for-placement concept concept became more popular in 2001. Google launched AdWords way back in 2001.Google started penalizing websites for selling PR on the same year. In 2003 Google started thinking about Spam. Yahoo purchased Inktomi, AltaVista and FAST in 2003. The year 2004 was a great year in SEO world as professional SEO started in 2004. Google introduced Google Analytics and "no follow" link attribute in 2005. In 2006 Google came up with minus 30 penalty. The year 2007 made SEO think more about ways on getting "targeted traffic" to the websites. In 2008 most of the real time social media websites got evolved. Twitter was started in 2008. In 2009 Bing became the new search engine released by Microsoft.

I am grateful to Jill Whalen, CEO of High Rankings a Boston SEO Consulting Agency for collecting so many facts about SEO evolution through the past decade.

Google Supports The Usage of Cross Domain Canonical Tag

Cross Domain Canonical Tag is the second generation canonical tag. In the latest SMX East conference session Joachim Kupke, senior software engineer of Google's indexing team announced that by the end of the year the search engine will offer cross-domain support for the canonical tag. The announced that it will support the usage of rel=”canonical” link element across different domains is a great help to webmasters.

The new update will help webmasters maintain the same content on two domains without having a content duplicate issue. The priority will be given to one domain/page and only one domain/page will appear in the search result. Danny Sullivan one the experts recalled the announcement in an interview with Mike McDonald of WebProNews, adding that he and other webmasters had been eager for such a solution for some time. So it is great time for all the webmasters. This change will help in increasing traffic to the original source. Traffic Creation will be one of the features this new change is going to bring in. I have been waiting for this change. Bing and Yahoo will not support Cross Domain Canonical Tag. The tag is going to improve search results in Google search engine. I hope that soon Yahoo and Bing too accepts this standard canonical tag format.

Meta Keyword Tag is not used in Google Rankings

Google has announced that Meta Keyword Tag is not used in Google search ranking at present. The keyword tag lost its importance long back when SEO and Webmasters started misusing the tag to gain higher search engine rankings for keywords which are not relevant to their website (the misuse of keyword tag can also be referred as keyword stuffing which is a black hat SEO technique). Google started to make modification to their algorithm so that this misuse could be stopped and finally they made a more advanced algorithm which looked into more off-page factors rather than on-page factors. Google still support most of the other meta tags including meta description tag.
